Delaware's largest annual event focusing on kids' products, services, and accomplishments. Presented by the Delaware Committee for UNICEF and sponsored by the A.I. duPont Institute.

Computer Access Workshop

March 21, 1994, 9:00 - 4:00 pm

John Clayton Conference Center, University of Delaware campus, Newark, DE. Workshop will focus on keyboard adaptations and alternative interfaces for computer access. Pre-registration required. Cost $10. Lunch included.

AbleNet Workshops

April 18, 1994, 2:00 - 4:00 pm - A.I. duPont Institute, Wilmington
April 19, 1994, 1:30-4:30 pm - DelTech Georgetown

An overview of effective ways to use AbleNet's switches, timers, adapters, and communication aids to enhance independence in play, learning, socializing, and activities of daily life. A.I. duPont session will focus on children and adolescents. Georgetown session will be geared toward adults with disabilities. Preregistration required. No charge. No meals.

Communication Aid Manufacturers Association (CAMA) Educational Workshop

AT Gadgets & Rehab Technology

May 23, 1994, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm, A.I. duPont Institute, Wilmington, DE presented by Richard Dodds, United Cerebral Palsy Association of New Jersey A demonstration of low-cost, off-the-shelf products that serve as assistive technology. NJ's mobile tech van will also be on display. Pre-registration required. No charge. Lunch included.

AT and ADA in the Workplace - discussion of ADA requirements and vocational assistive technology demos geared for employers and business owners.

AT Film Festival - review of videos on AT products, training in assessment, and awareness. Popcorn and drinks provided!

Assistive Devices for the Elderly - discussion of cases and how assistive devices helped to improve hearing, vision, mobility, and daily activities at home or in the community.

Assistive Listening Devices for the Hard of Hearing - discussion of the purpose and use of assistive listening devices in various communication situations.

Assistive Technology in the Nursing Home - discussion of basic needs for assistive technology in the nursing home to improve accessibility and the quality of life for residents. Targeted for nursing home professionals, family members of nursing home residents.

Basic Computer Terminology - basic "computer lingo", especially as it pertains to adaptive computer technology.

Choosing a Computer - Kevin McHugh from Computer Warehouse will discuss and demonstrate computer selection for individuals with disabilities.

Ergonomic Possibilities for the Workplace - guest speaker to discuss different types of ergonomic keyboards and input technology for people with disabilities. Targeted for VR counselors, professionals, or consumers.

Funding Clinic - question and answer session on funding questions or problems for consumers or professionals.

Funding: EPSDT and Medicaid - basic information on the EPSDT and Medicaid programs and how they provide coverage for some assistive technology services and devices.

How to Make Switches and Adaptive Toys - Phyllis Bierstedt will demonstrate how to make simple, low-cost switches at home for toys and devices.

How to Research AT - discussion of print and database resources, including Abledata, to help consumers research assistive technology independently.

Introduction to AAC Assessment and Technology - guest speaker to present a general overview with most time spent in small groups looking at technology assessment and solutions for persons with communication disorders. Targeted for professionals.

Intro to the Macintosh - basic orientation and demonstration of the Macintosh computer for parents and professionals.

AAC Device Demo - Millie Telega from ACCL, Inc. to demonstrate Macaw, Say-It-All, and other devices for people with speaking or writing difficulties.

Mobility Aids for People with Disabilities - guest speaker will discuss and show various types of mobility aids that can be used at home to improve the quality of life.

Open Tour - tour of facility and services.

Proven Adaptations using Assistive Technology in the Community and Workplace - guest speaker will show and discuss problems encountered requiring adaptations and their solutions.

Resources for Adaptive Toys - session for parents on where and how to find resources to help make playtime a special learning time.

Software for Young Children - basic discussion of software and hands-on lab experience with software. Targeted for parents.

Technology for Visually Impairments Demo - Chesapeake Low Vision, Inc. to demonstrate closed circuit TVs and other technology for visually impaired.

Think Summer Fun: AT & Leisure Opportunities for Severely Disabled - Carol Barnett, NCCo Dept. of Parks and Recreation is guest speaker on how AT can make summer more fun and educational.

Kent County ATRC Workshops

Assistive Technology for Home and Work - introductory workshop demonstrating high and low tech adaptations for the home and workplace of a person with a disability.

Equalizing Access to Information - overview of information and services available for people with disabilities at the Delaware Division of Libraries. Includes Books on Tape, Descriptive Video, and reading computer.

Fun Stuff on the Mac - for the Mac user who would like to become more efficient and organized using system shortcuts and low cost or even free software to enhance your Mac.

Funding Workshop - discussion of new laws governing special education, transition to voc rehab, Medicaid EPSDT, and equipment funding justifications.

Introduction to AAC - introductory workshop discussing the importance of effective communication and the technology currently available to meet the needs of nonspeaking individuals.

Intro to Mac - introduction to Macintosh for those with no or limited experience. Will show you the basics to get you comfortable with the system.

Technology for Low Vision - from large print to computers that read, see the latest in technology from the ATRC and DVI for people with low vision.

Toy Workshop II - hands-on workshop to adapt your own toys, make your own switches, junction boxes, and other various items for children with disabilities. Knowledge of soldering would be helpful, but not necessary.

Using a computer with my child: What I need to know - see the many ways computers can be used with children. A variety of software and access methods will be demonstrated.

Sussex County ATRC Workshops

The Sussex ATRC will be open Tuesday & Thursday evenings until 5:30 pm and on selected Saturdays from 10 am until 1 pm -- see calendar for specific dates!

Being Creative is Easy Using AT - creative methods for teaching AT use in daily living activities.

Painting Without a Canvas (or Talent!) - a demonstration of the new Video Painter by V-Tech, a device used with a TV, VCR, and your imagination to create printed images.

Using AT to Communicate with Non-English Speaking Consumers - basic communication tips for those times when you need to speak with Spanish- or French-speaking consumers. Bring a list of questions and help for providing answers will be given.

PIC (Parent Information Center) Workshops - April 8, 9, 15, & 16 -- Call Kathy at the PIC Office at (302)366-1052 for details and registration.

Throughout March, ATRC staff will be meeting with church organizations to promote advocacy for persons with disabilities. Throughout April, ATRC staff is available to make presentations to service organizations, such as Kiwanis, Lions, Elks, etc. Call the ATRC office to arrange for a speaker for your group.
