Activities/Workshops

New Castle County ATRC Workshops

Beginning in April, there will be an Open Lab every Tuesday and an Open Tour every Thursday-no pre-registration required for Open Tours or Open Labs! (V) indicates a video presentation.

How to Make Simple Adaptations - A rehab engineer will show you how to make your own simple adaptations to assistive technology devices. Installation of battery interrupters, switch interrupters, voice output, etc. will be demonstrated.

Intro to the Liberator - Explore Prentke Romich's Liberator as a voice output communication device. (V)

Job Search Techniques - Delaware Elwyn's Assistant Executive Director, Joe Cipolla, will teach you ways to do self-evaluations, how to read the labor market, and job search techniques.

Open Lab - Opportunity for "hands-on" computer hardware and software experience. Reservations required.

Open Tour - Your opportunity to have a guided tour of the center and see some demos of assistive technology.

Using the BAT Keyboard - Learn how to use the InfoGrip one-handed BAT Personal Keyboard to operate your PC. (V)

Augmentative and Alternative Communication-Everything that Talks - Come and review low tech to high tech augmentative communication (AAC) devices-everything from the SpeakEasy to the System 2000. Learn about dedicated devices and computer options. Presented by Maureen T. Schweitzer, SLP/CCC and Ed Salisbury, Assistive Technology Specialist. CEUs offered.

Equalizing Access to Information - An overview of assistive technology for persons with disabilities. The Delaware Division of Libraries and Kent County ATRC offer state of the art technology and services for people with low vision, blindness, and physical disabilities. This includes Books By Mail, Talking Books, Descriptive Videos, screen magnification software, and the Arkenstone Reader with braille option.

Seating, Positioning and Wheeled Mobility - Introduction to seating, positioning, and wheeled mobility. See techniques of evaluation and equipment used for assessment. Presented by Nancy Ranalli, Physical Therapist, Jill Bauder, Occupational Therapist, and Mike Meyerles, Rehab Engineer.

Sussex County ATRC Workshops

Aids to Daily Living - Discussion of devices that can promote independence and participation in daily life activities. Workshop will be held at the Independent House in Millsboro. Registration required.

The Computer, the Great Equalizer - An introduction to computer technology to communicate, send email, download shareware software packages, and generally participate in the Information Revolution. Workshop will be held at the Sussex ATRC. Registration required.

Recreation and Leisure Workshop - Cross section of programs and discussion of the shareware concept in using a computer for recreational activities. This workshop will be held at the Independent Living house in Millsboro. For registration, please call Connie or Ken at the Sussex County ATRC.

TDD-Basics and Operation - Demonstration and hands-on use of a telephone device for the deaf. Overview of services and devices for individuals with hearing impairments. Workshop at the Sussex ATRC. Registration required.
