Communication Aid Manufacturers Association (CAMA) Workshop John Clayton Conference Center, Newark, DE, 8:30-3:45 p.m., May 16, 1996. The CAMA Workshop offers a gateway to state-of-the-art technology in augmentative and alternative communication. It is designed to give participants an introduction to the products currently available. AT and Activities of Daily Living - This introductory workshop will increase participant's awareness of the use of low tech to high tech equipment in school/work, self-care, and play/leisure. Limited to 20 people.

At and the Workplace - Participants will learn the many ways in which the workplace can be made accessible for people with disabilities. Topics will include low cost and no cost modifications, demonstration of equipment, seating, ergonomics, prevention of repetitive strain injuries, and accessibility issues. Limited to 15 people.

Boardmaker and Communication Overlays - This workshop will familiarize speech pathologists, teachers, and parents in the use of Boardmaker when creating custom communication overlays and boards. Limited to 15 people.

Open House at the DATI NCCo Assistive Technology Resource Center - This will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the ATRC and its staff, equipment, and information resources. Come to the open house and enjoy informal tours, networking, and refreshments.

Surfing the Net - This workshop will introduce consumers to the Internet. Participants will become familiar with the World Wide Web, Usenet News groups, Gopher, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and Internet E-mail. This workshop will offer a hands on opportunity and will be limited to 10 people.

Augmentative Communication-Everything that Talks - One of the most time consuming and difficult aspects of augmentative communication is vocabulary development. This workshop will outline considerations for vocabulary development using actual cases. Participants will be given the opportunity to program a sample abbreviated vocabulary into one of several electronic communication devices. Devices will include the Macaw, Dynavox, System 2000, and Say-It-All.

Classroom Short-cuts - Participants will learn creative ways to organize and access files and programs on their Macintosh or IBM computer. Software to assist in typing for students with learning and/or physical disabilities as well as alternative access methods will be demonstrated. Learn how easy it is to put tests and worksheets on the computer for students who are unable to write. Participants will also learn how to protect their computer from accidental deletions and students exploring the hard drive.

Computer Access - Come and learn about all the options in using the standard keyboard and the mouse that are available. This workshop will demonstrate that people of all abilities can use the computer. Come and familiarize yourself with the adaptive technologies available, such as Intellikeys, Headmouse, and Dragon Dictate.

Sign Language and Total Communication - Held at the State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Attendees will acquire a functional sign language vocabulary of approximately 250 signs as well as learn about individual considerations when working with individuals who cannot use speech to communicate. Information will be provided on when, why, and how to teach sign language. A brief overview of AAC systems will also be provided. Focus will be primarily on "low tech" systems.

PRC Training for DeltaTalker - Provides the speech-language pathologist, facilitator, parent, or other person interested in AAC a thorough understanding of DeltaTalker, its operation, and possible applications.

PRC Training for Unity - Provides the speech-language pathologist, facilitator, parent, or other person interested in AAC a thorough understanding of Unity, its operation, and possible applications.

Seating, Positioning, and Wheeled Mobility - Topics will include the importance of wheeled mobility and proper seating and positioning systems, types of mobility from manual wheelchairs to scooters, types of seating systems and their components, steps involved in evaluating a client for a wheelchair and seating system, the ordering process and funding, safety and maintenance of wheelchairs, and client demonstration with a seating simulator.

Delaware non-residents will be charged a fee of $20 (unless otherwise indicated) to attend DATI training activities.
